On Tuesday, May 12th the Schenectady County Legislature voted on whether or not to build a new nursing home.  The vote passed in favor of the project on party lines.  This project will impact public, private and construction trade union members and their families (CSEA, SEIU, Building Trades Council)

Because of our legislator's leadership, the County remains in the Nursing Home business and retains 266 unionized positions; this $50,000,000 construction project will also create over 100 construction jobs for our skilled trades.

The quality of care at this facility, which has always been outstanding, will now be matched by a modern facility that provides a home-like environment.  A new facility will actually reduce County operating costs by over $500,000 per year, which would more than offset the County’s bonding costs.

Scott Murphy Sworn-in as Congressman for New York’s 20th Congressional District

Washington, DC— On Tuesday, Scott Murphy was officially sworn-in as the Congressman for New York’s 20th Congressional District on the House floor. Scott is looking forward to getting right to work and helping to solve the current economic crisis.

“I am humbled by the faith and trust the people of New York’s 20th Congressional District put in me and I will spend every day working to make their lives better and being their voice in Congress,” said Congressman Murphy. “I look forward to rolling up my sleeves in Washington to bring jobs and economic relief back to Upstate New York.”

The Capital District Area Labor Federation Annual Meeting was held on Saturday, April 25th.  Over 150 union members attended and once again made this a successful event.

Members of Greater Capital Region Building and Construction Trades Council, as well as CDALF leaders, participated in a rally on 4/22 at the Capitol.  Workers were advocating for Assembly Bill A3705 which would clarify the definition of public work.
